 Organic Food Feeds Your Health

Organic food in the UK is booming, with more and more shelf space being devoted to it in our supermarkets.  Now, supermarkets are very good at spotting market trends and reacting to them.

So why are people buying organic food?  Here are a few reasons (although not an exhaustive list):-

 1.     According to the government body checking pesticides (www.pesticides.gov.uk) on fruit and vegetables, 70% do not contain any measurable quantity of pesticides on them.  So that means 30% of them DO!  They cover this by saying that where they can detect pesticides the chemical content is below the legal limit.  That's alright then, isn't it!

Even when washed, traces of chemicals remain in these cases.  DDT and other UK banned pesticides are still used in other countries and traces have been found on some imported foods.

2.    Nearly all non-organic animals in the UK are fed genetically modified Soya as a supplement.  There has since been a 50% rise in Soya allergies.  The only way to avoid genetically modified food is to eat organic food

Referring back to the BSE crisis, there never has been a case of BSE in organic cattle in the UK.

 3.    Intensively reared chickens, cattle and other farm animals are fed various drugs (anti-biotics, anti-parasitic and growth hormones) in order to promote faster growth and turn-round of animals.  The drug residues are passed on to consumers in the meat and/or dairy produce.  The only way to avoid these trace drugs is to eat organic food.

 4.    The rain run-off from farms which have used intensive fertilizers, have poisoned rivers and waterways sufficient to kill all the fish and many other water-based animals.  If the life in a river is killed what would it do to us?  Join  the attempts to clean our rivers and let fish back in them by only eating organic food.

 5.    Is fresh fruit and veg. really fresh in the supermarket, or has it been stored/transported for days/weeks?  If it is fresh why does it deteriorate so quickly when we get it home?  If it is so near the end of its shelf life how can it be providing us with all the required fragile vitamins and enzymes that we need for a healthy body?  Eat only organic food.

6.    Organic food just tastes so much better, having fuller, truer flavours.  This applies to both fruit & vegetables as well as meat/dairy produce.  However, there is one thing that is better than buying organic fruit and vegetables; grow-your-own (G-Y-O), true organic garden food.

That really is the mecca of food; from growing on the plant to being on your plate, all inside half an hour.

G-Y-O is the best organic garden food.
